Rule #55 The Smithy

Since jobs are undoubtedly good for the economy I propose yet another "job" title for the citizens of Nomiblog, the Smithy. The first Smithy shall be chosen by our noble and just Baron.

#55a The Smithy makes things. Currently the only thing the Smithy knows how to make are swords. This may change with future rules and some training.

#55b The Smithy will create a sword for any player who pays one (1) QI'yaH to the Smithy (for the item) and one (1) QI'yaH to the Baron(ess) (for a sword license). This payment is not automatic upon request and must be detailed in the form of a comment to this post.

Example: " I [insert name here], hereby pay 1 QI'yaH to the Smithy and 1 QI'yaH the our most gracious and kind Baron for the purchase of a sword and sword license.

55b1 Should Bill#12 Appointing a Master-of-Arms pass by unanimous vote and be made into a bill, this bill shall allow for the Master-of-Arms to request a sword from the Smithy at no cost.

#55c: The Smithy is a lifetime profession, meaning that the only way to get out of the trade is to retire. At any time the Smithy may name another player their "apprentice" and upon their retirement the apprentice will become the new Smithy. Once retiring from being the Smithy a player can not be named the apprentice nor can they hold the title "Smithy" ever again.

Yes. I vote in favor not only because my surname is Smith but because I believe it is everyones right to bear arms. Since it is indeed my name however I must request of our most gracious, noble, and wise Baron that I be named the Smithy.

No! I believe strongly in the right to bear arms, but not under the tyranny of the Baron's nod or of a protected bureaucrat of swordmaking.

I might change my vote if offered some sort of steel bribery.... Is exactly the sort of thing a corrupt vote-seller would say. Not at all me. ;)

A just and benevolent ruler has nothing to fear from an armed and empowered lower class.

...therefore I shall have to deliberate and consider carefully before casting my vote.

Sorry about the pic not loading properly. Mr. Ed tried to sue me for using his image without permission but my lawyers have worked it out. I've promised to pay him 5 million carrots for the use of his likeness.

Well, now that I can see the amusing picture, I vote yes. Besides, it has the potential to make me money - er, QI'yaH!

Yes...I want a sword that currently does nothing.

I am tickled a light shade of red by the Baron gracing my bill with a yes vote but dost his grace not think my prposal worthy of the full support of his throne? I emplore you Baron, to cast your vote with the backing of your noble and well deserved title. Besides, who will provide the arms for YOUR Master-of-Arms?

rbbergstrom said...

Speaking as administrator/moderator:

Technically, the Baron didn't vote for your bill. He said he was going to, but he didn't start his post with "Yes" so it doesn't count.

Luckily, there are eagle-eyed guardians of democracy out there to keep the politicians honest.

rbbergstrom said...

Yes. For fear that I may forget to do so before tallying the votes, I, the Baron, do hearby vote in the affirmative for this Bill, using my democratically elected rights as Baron to make my vote count double. Huzzah!

Kevin said...

Many thanks dear Baron. I feel you will most likely not regret arming your citizens with imaginary swords.

Kevin said...

I hereby convey one QI'yaH to the Smithy and one QI'yaH to the baron for a sword and sword license. Stabby stabby!

rbbergstrom said...

I also have already paid the Smithy one QI'yaH, via credit card, for a Sword. In fairness, I also paid such a charge to myself, so that there would be no favoritism. And it did enhance my happiness to do so.

rbbergstrom said...

This Rule is hard for people to find now that it's no longer on the front page. Perhaps I need to revise the label system so as to make it easier for players to buy Swords.

rbbergstrom said...

I'd be happy to do so.

I [digital_sextant], hereby pay 1 QI'yaH to the Smithy and 1 QI'yaH the our most gracious and kind Baron for the purchase of a sword and sword license.

Please smith one up for me with all haste. And be sure it has lots of filigree and inlaid jewels. And a cool scabbard.

rbbergstrom said...

Seeing as I now have the money, I should like to purchase a second Sword. I'd like it light and swift, with a broad guard over the hand so that I might parry with it. I pay a QI'yaH to Amy, and to myself.

Kevin said...

I hereby convey 2 QI'yaH to the smithy and 2 QI'yaH to the Baron for a total of 4 QI'yaH for the procurement of two swords.

rbbergstrom said...

With great power comes great responsibility. Since responsibility, like most everything, makes me happy, I'll have some power. I hearby pay another QI'yaH to the Smithy and 1 to myself for another Sword.

I think this one shall be a large Scottish Claymore, with "this end toward enemy" stamped upon the blade.

Master of the small and pointless said...

Although swords are large and pointed, not small and pointless, I still feel the need to have some. It also pains me to give the baron any of my QI'yaH. None the less I would like to have 2 swords please dear smithy. If you can make them from some pretty Damascus steel I will spread great praise of your work throughout all Nomiblog and wipe the blood from the blade with nothing but fine silk.

Master of the small and pointless said...

I sure do wish the smithy would get out of their drunken stupor and make my swords! I have things that need to poked and cut! I believe today is day 5 of my wait.

Amy said...

So sorry small, it's very difficult to make swords tiny and dull enough for one such as your self.

Amy said...

And by the way, I, the Smithy, have forged 5 swords for myself and require licenses for them. They're names are: Stabby, Pokey, Slashy, Hacky, and Bendy. Please accept my payment of 5 QI'yaH. Thank you.

rbbergstrom said...

Indeed. I am happy to return the favor by asking you to make me 6 additional swords, for which I shall pay you 6 QI'yaH.

They shall be named:

Stabby's Brother,
Pokey's Sister,
Slashy's Uncle,
Hacky's Great-Grand-Mother,
Bendy's roommate's third cousin twice removed on his fathers side,
and
Your momma.

I thank you in advance for your craftswomanship and smithiness.

Sincerely, The Baron.

It's been 8 days. I am loathe to invoke the provisions of rule 55pt2, but if I do not do so, I will likely not get these swords before the rules reset on the first.

Pursuant to rule 55pt2, the Smithy gains a Frag, and looses all right to the 6 QI'yaH I attempted to pay her.
